Moroccan Currency

The history of the Moroccan currency is at the Museum of Bank Al Maghrib. On July 30, 2007, the museum landscape has known, both nationally and in the capital, the birth of a new museum. Bank Al Maghrib has opened to the public its doors as a Currency Museum. It is a true gem.

The museum premises is what used to be the agency of Bank Al Maghrib, or the Great Hall of the rich heritage numismatic presentation. A brand which has the final result of inviting the visitor to a scholarly but easily digestible and enjoyable experience.

There is a factor that is important, if not decisive, especially when we know that this museum is divided into not less than seven (7) modules on the history of currency in Morocco and has been since antiquity until our days. Beginning with the birth of the currency and its introduction in Morocco, or during the period between the VIIth and 1st centuries BC.


And at the first contact with this module, visitors will remember the birth of philosophy (Plato), democracy (Pericles) and art through monetary emissions from Greek cities. A useful reminder in these times where obscurantists wanted to lay hands on Morocco, land of light, openness and tolerance.

The other unique part of the permanent part of the exhibition belongs to the period of the Kingdom of Mauretania mentioned above and represents aureus Juba II. A very small room but beauty does not leave indifferent.

While most of this trip takes place under the imposing and majestic dome that dominates the great hall of Bank Al Maghrib, the circuit also consists of rooms, adjacent to the delight of the visitor, that are declined like the Russian dolls until it ends in the room of the specialist library and rare books.
