I am from Morocco and I grew up with so much of these pieces around me everywhere to the point that I never realized their true beauty and real value untill I traveled far away for awhile.
I am so in love with Moroccan metalwork now that I have seen the creativity and the hard labor that goes into making and shaping each piece with so much respect to detail.
you might have seen a Moroccan lamp before. Every piece is such a unique testament to the talent and expertise of Moroccan artisans.
The craft is a tradition inherited through so many generations of Moroccans who pride themselves in producing a very good quality product reflective of their cultural inheritance.
Moroccan Metalwork takes differents forms in Morocco and the outcome is either used as a tool for everyday use or as a decoration piece. In this I mention the too most common practices of metalwork.
Ironwork
Mainly present in the regions of Marrakech, Fez, and Safi, Iron work is remarkable for its creations. Blacksmiths are always rushing to the souks of wrought iron chandeliers, sconces, lanterns, mirror frames, grates, screens and more.
Brassware
It is a specialty of the city of Marrakech and its handy artisans.
Artisans melt and flow copper, then they hammer or chisel it to make round trays "cures", kettles, teapots, tea and sugar caddies, chandeliers etc...Then they work it into marvellous art work.
