Ouarzazate

Thanks to the rock carvings in and around the city we know that Ouarzazate is an old town. The first inhabitants of this region were Berbers, later followed by black Africans and Jews.

This is one of my favorite places in Morocco. I love the many kasbahs surrounding the city. But let us shed some light on the background of this magical area.

This city was in the past the bridge to meet various peoples of the north and south for all their commercial and cultural exchanges. Merchants settled in the city because they discovered gold and precious metals.

In the year 62 AH, the region was under Islamic Oqba by Ibn Nafi. The foundation Sijilmassa Tafilalt was made by the Idrissides from the mid-seventh century. This caused the decline of cities Todgha and Ziz.Ouarzazate

The region is the route for caravans carrying goods. It became an important commercial center in Morocco.

It became even more important under the Almoravids especially with Sultan Ibn Abdellah Yassine.

The reign of Saadians restored the city with major renewals and expansions thanks to the trans-Saharan trade. These exchanges were organized by the Sultan Sa'did El Mansour in the Sudan.

The region will deteriorate further after the death of Sultan El Mansour and after the coastal deviations ending in favor of Europeans. Ouarzazate Kasbah

The city found a new lease with the Alawite dynasty Cherifian.

The people of Morocco and Sahara refused the occupation of the French colonial troops.

With the country's independence, King Mohammed V was welcomed enthusiastically. the South was free in 1958. Agriculture was reborn through the Barrage El Mansour Eddahbi.

The city is now famous for its film studios and its unique natural scenery. Ait Ben Haddou Ksar

The city is also a great step in the discovery of southern Morocco.

It is located near the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a few kilometers from the Kasbah Taourirt and picturesque oasis of Flint.

Visitors also enjoy the palm of Ouarzazate and its many guest houses located along the artificial lake Ouarzazate. There are also tours and excursions from this city to the kasbahs.

Best features:

The Kasbah Taourirt :

The Kasbah Taourirt is like all Kasbahs in Morocco, whether large or small, they serve as the seat against the enemy. But this one is made also to protect against weather, wind, dust and heat, since the place is a desert.Ouarzazate Kasbah Taourirte

visitors enjoy the splendor of the era of Pasha of Ouarzazate, a city that has become a major center for filming movies now.

In this beautiful maze room and staircase, which still retains its decor, runs an annual festival of folk songs and dances of ahwach.

The Kasbah Tifoultoute:

It is around Ouarzazate, just en route to Zagora. Ouarzazate Kasbah Tifoultoute

This is one Kasbah of Pacha Glaoui. Used as a backdrop in movies, the Kasbah is a beautiful piece of architecture.

There is a fantastic terrace there  that is the perfect spot to admire the valley of the High Atlas Mountains.  Do not forget your camera.

What is more inviting about Ouarzazate are its people. The locals there are so nice and welcoming. You will feel so relaxed and warm around them.

Accept a cup of Moroccan mint tea when then they offer it to you. It is a very nice jesture in Morocco.Moroccan mint tea

Remember  The climate there is very hot. Carry water  with you all the time .  The evenings are a little and are usually a more pleasant time if you want stay outside for a long period.
